My name is Julie Yamamoto and I’m a freelance content marketer, writer and sustainability advocate with more than 15 years of Fortune 500 corporate experience. Although most of my career has been working as a full-time program and communications manager in technical industries, I am embarking on the freelance path for greater flexibility in work and life. I am open to working with individuals, companies and creative agencies on a short term or long term basis as a freelance content marketer, digital producer, writer or sustainability communications manager. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need help in any of these areas.
Left brain: I’m a proven leader and strategic thinker with deep technology and cross-industry experience who is equally at home executing or leading teams to success. As a leader, I excel at charting new territory, with a career-long pattern of experimentation and spearheading first-of-a-kind initiatives. Previous scope of responsibilities have included managing global teams up 30+, budgets up to $12M, and digital communities up to 100k. As a content marketer, my diverse industry expertise enables me to dig deep on data-driven storytelling and align communications and user experiences to a wide range of business audiences and topics.
Right brain: I’m an experienced writer, innovator and sustainability advocate skilled in delivering stories and user experiences designed to engage audiences around a shared vision. Thinking outside-the-box and connecting the dots to discover big ideas inspires me, and I have a track record of delivering high impact results with unique approaches across a broad range of digital media including websites, interactive experiences, videos, thought leadership articles and social media. Also known as someone who can explain complex topics in a clear way, I thrive on writing and producing in-depth stories and experiences that require investigative analysis as well as a creative eye.
Personal: My interests are varied and eclectic but generally fall into long-held passions for art, writing and the natural world. In my spare time, I garden, plant trees, create art (mostly paintings), write, do photography and travel to the most beautiful places of nature on earth that I can (some favorites include waterfalls in Japan, Muir Woods, Olympic National Park, the Hoh Rainforest). As a lifelong nature lover, I am deeply committed to conservation research and communications and passionate about applying a diverse skill set to help solve environmental challenges locally and globally. Alternative career paths I have thought about include forestry, horticulture, artist, journalist, environmental reporter, sustainability communications, green marketing, nonprofit digital content, etc.

“Julie is the perfect blend of left-brain, right-brain. I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Julie on several thought leadership studies at IBM where she has not only brought her meticulous skills in project management, but also creativity in digital content development and social amplification. Julie is passionate about all her projects, especially furthering environmental and sustainability causes, and she demonstrates this end-to-end, from strategic thinking and planning to high-quality content deliverables.”
